Rick Byerly
Lake Superior Ice Texture and Abstract Photography
In March 2007 Rick Byerly traveled Minnesota’s North Shore of Lake Superior to find that high powered winds had crashed miles of numerous ice shelves into each other. He trekked them for several days, finding that the sun was changing the exterior patterns of the shelves by the minute. The black and white images celebrate seldom seen perspectives of ice shelve formations using zoom and macro lenses. He used a professional digital slr camera and converted the images to black and white using color filters in Photoshop.Rick Byerly trained at Pittsburgh Filmmakers in 2000 and 2001 and from 2004 on has worked with digital slr cameras and Photoshop. He launched a full time commitment to fine art photography in January of 2007 with his website www.uniquetake.com and started showing in art galleries in July of 2007. He was admitted to the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh in the Fall 2007 screening as an artist member and has been a member of Silver Eye Center for Photography on Pittsburgh’s South Side since 2005. His most recent exhibit was at the Photo Forum at the USX Tower and he has a new side project entitled “Haunted by Faces” at www.rickbyerly.com. He also recently launched a volunteer effort to list all Pittsburgh area art venues at www.pghgalleries.com and art events at the blog www.pittsburghgalleries.blogspot.com.
