Maxime Portugais
Maxime Portugais was born in Montreal in 1981 and is currently finishing an MA in Administration. His passion for painting began a few years ago and he still considers himself as part of a learning process. Maxime doesn’t have formal training as a painter; He learns by himself with help from painters from the Internet community.
Artist’s Statement:
I primarily paint portraits simply because this is what I like. I always try to mix elements of classical painting and urban graffiti in my portraits. For me, the most important thing is to be able to represent the ambiance and the feeling I get from a person more than the person herself.
Material: I usually paint with oils, but I like to use acrylic as well depending on the project. I like to experiment with different surfaces. Some of my paintings are done on canvas but most of them are on wood panel or heavy illustration board.
