Karl Backman
Karl was born Oct 27, 1970 in Sweden. He got his identity and sense of belonging as a punk rocker when he was 9, started his first punk band in 1982 when he was part of a group of squatters. He’s played guitar in punk bands ever since and is currently in The Vectors and AC4; did a lot of fanzines too.
He ran a punk rock club back in the early 90’s until it was closed by the authorities. Karl has worked as a gravedigger, in a crematorium, slaughter house, restaurants, and betting shops. He says he did a year in the army, did a year in London and got in a lot of trouble.
He drew comics, designed posters and did screen print t-shirts in his early teens and has only been painting the last 6 years, which started when he went to art school and was more or less forced to. He’s currently working on a series of ltd ed screen prints right now, as well as on the International Artmoney project. He is always looking for new places to exhibit his art.
