May’s featured content + some changes

May 5, 2008 – 8:41 pm

I wanted to let everyone know that May’s featured content is up and involves a lot of great talent! Katrijn Michiels is an up and coming photographer from Belgium and Jaleh Afshar is a very creative artist living in Salt Lake City, Utah. Despite living in opposite parts of the world, they share a creative spirit that I admire very much.

I also wanted to take the time to announce that I have eliminated the essay section, because it was not drawing nearly enough submissions to keep up with the magazine’s issues. I don’t regret losing this section, only because I know magazines constantly need to evolve to suit their audiences and so, I’d also like to welcome any suggestions at this time as well.

And lastly, those of you who submit work and who also rate Debris on Duotrope: I try to keep up with replying back to submissions, but keep in mind that I have two jobs, plus freelancing and at times, a life so I am not always able to reply back asap. Please be patient before badmouthing the magazine on Duotrope.

For those who submit work, please make sure you get a confirmation email from me so you know I’ve received your work. I can’t tell you how many times I have received withdrawal emails from people who I never knew submitted work, probably because their emails went directly to my spam/junk box. I apologize for that, but there’s only so many spam emails I can sort through before I want to start buying vitamins or helping out lost relatives desperately wanting to give me money. ;)
